Dear Friend, The House ratified the White House's deal with Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell. And the White House made the Bush tax cuts permanent for a huge chunk of the wealthiest 2%, giving away our best leverage for staving off future cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid benefits. The deal didn't address the upcoming need to raise the debt ceiling or the triggered spending cuts (called the "sequester") set by the failed 2010 debt limit deal. So in just two months, we'll reach a crisis again, and because our best way to raise revenue (rolling back the Bush tax cuts on the wealthiest Americans) has been surrendered, we'll be in the fight of our life to protect our social safety net. There were some positive things in the bill that was passed. There was no negative change in the way cost of living increases to Social Security benefits are calculated. Unemployment benefits were extended for over two million Americans who are still looking for work. The Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit were extended for the next five years. And the Wind Production Tax Credit was extended for another year, to name a few. But overall, as Jim Moran said, "We're going to look back on this night and regret it." Jim Moran was joined by seven other members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus in voting no on making the Bush tax cuts permanent for Americans making over $250,000 a year. They were: Rep. Rosa DeLauro, Rep. Pete DeFazio, Rep. Earl Blumenauer, Rep. Xavier Becerra, Rep. Jim McDermott, Rep. Brad Miller and Rep. Suzanne Bonamici. In the Senate, Tom Harkin also stood up and alone on the floor of the Senate explained that permanent extension of the Bush tax cuts was an absolute deal breaker. BARACK OBAMA UNABLE TO REGISTER FOR STATE PRIMARY AS ALABAMA REVIEWS HIS ELIGIBILITY TO BE A CANDIDATE FOR THE PRESIDENCY

UPDATE: An Alabama Court has announced that it will hear arguments as to whether Barack Hussein Obama II is in fact eligible to appear on the State Presidential Primary Ballot.
Several Alabama citizens have filed a lawsuit within the Alabama Circuit Court to "prevent certification of President Barack Obama for 2012 Alabama ballot access pending final hearing based on factual evidentiary hearings."
The deadline for any candidate to register to appear on the Alabama Presidential Primary ballot is just days away, but by agreeing to hear the case, the Alabama Courts have effectively stalled any efforts by the Democratic Party to place Obama on the ballot.
Just as important is the fact that the Court did indeed accept the case. By agreeing to hear the case, the Court appears to have recognized that the defendants, ordinary Alabama citizens, do in fact have standing. In many previous eligibility cases, courts have ruled that ordinary citizens did not have standing, in other words were not sufficiently harmed by the actions of the defendant and therefore had no legal right to bring their case before the courts.
The actions of this Alabama Court is a game changer in that the legal system has finally recognized that ordinary citizens CAN be harmed and DO have the right to protest unconstitutional actions committed at the highest levels of Federal government.
This case could revolutionize the legal system AND return the judiciary to the duty our Founding Fathers intended – protecting the citizenry from Federal power mongering.
As we have said for so long, the power to defeat the Usurper in Chief lies with the STATES. We MUST continue to push all the other states to DEMAND PROOF POSITIVE evidence of eligibility from any Presidential candidate who desires to appear on State ballots.

Paul Connects 9/11 To Policy Of Non-Intervention In Iran
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- When explaining his anti-interventionist foreign policy in front of a crowd of about 300 people here, Ron Paul referenced the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11 and argued that attacking Iran would unite the country against us.
"You know how we felt when we were attacked," he said on Thursday evening. "We weren't Democrats and Republicans and independents. We were attacked, and we all were together and said, 'Why did this happen, what are we going to do, and how are we going to repel it, and how are we going to prepare for it?'"
Paul has said repeatedly that the United States should not attack Iran to prevent it from building nuclear weapons. He said Thursday that bombing the country would hurt an effort by some Iranians to overthrow their leaders.
"They say every time we threaten and they think they're going to be attacked, the ayatollahs get stronger," he said. "So if we start bombing, their whole effort to undermine the ayatollah and change their government would be undermined."
At the same time, bombing another country could lead to another attack on U.S. soil, Paul warned.
"People misinterpret what I say about what happened on 9/11, but very clearly -- it was so tragic -- but I just point out that a different foreign policy might have diminished the incentive," he said. "I don't believe people are going to come over here and commit suicide to prove that we're rich and free. They don't do that. They come because they're angry at us."
